The MediaVise SSD Destroyer (MV-SSD) is a commercial-capacity computer solid-state drive destroyer.
The MV-SSD also destroys and renders inoperable other miniaturized electronic devices and data storage media including USBs, PDAs, cell/smart phones and circuit boards. It will also crush and disable a limited number of HDDs.

Utilizing a proprietary hydraulic power unit developed by Phiston, and a pair of patented crushing plates with arrays of 187 interlocking razor sharp hardened steel teeth, the MV-SSD delivers a whopping 20 tons of destructive forces to the SSD media and their fragile ceramic memory chips that are punctured, crushed, serrated and absolutely decimated on both sides in less than 30 seconds.

How Secure is Data on a Solid-state Storage Device?
Flash RAM-based solid-state storage devices in computers, business servers, mobile phones, tablets, laptops and even cloud data centers, have resident data encryption techniques that enhance their security and made unauthorized data access and recovery very difficult. In addition, SSD-stored data is distributed randomly throughout the flash RAM cells by design, making data recovery even more difficult than from conventional sequential-write hard drives.

Physical destruction of an SSD
further radically complicates, and drastically reduces the already low odds of data recovery by destroying RAM chips, circuit board connections, and SSD-stored encryption keys. The destroyed SSD is unusable, and any chances of recovering data from it are extremely remote, even by forensic means.

How much is too much destruction for your data destruction needs?
Obviously, the greater the degree to which an SSD is destroyed, the greater the degree of difficulty to recovery any information from it. But correspondingly, the greater the size, the greater the complexity and the greater the cost of the machine to destroy the SSD.

b) Secret or Protected C information; provided information was encrypted or first cleared or overwritten.

• Approved by the RCMP for Interim Destruction pending further Approved Destruction. The MV-SSD renders HDDs, SSDs and Miniaturized Electronic Devices unplayable by ordinary means and is therefore approved as a risk mitigation measure for media in transit to, or awaiting additional destruction required for medium and confidentiality levels of information.

a) Protected A and B information. Prior clearing or overwriting is not required.
b) Secret or Protected C information provided information was encrypted or first cleared or overwritten.

Note: After degaussing, hard drives should not be reused as they are stressed in the erasure process. Some backup tapes may not be reusable after degaussing due to the servo track being erased.
